We support the ILCU Foundation
Antrim Credit Union is glad to be one of many Credit Unions who contribute to the valuable work of the ILCU International Development Fund.
For over thirty years Irish credit unions have been contributing towards a development fund, administered by the ILCU Foundation, in support of strengthening the credit union movement in developing countries.
The ILCU Foundation was founded in 1980. A motion put forward, and passed, at the AGM that year invited credit unions to contribute towards a fund “to provide aid, financial or otherwise, to developing countries with particular emphasis on credit union and other cheap celebrex co-operative projects”.
The Foundation was set up out of a responsibility to share the success of the Irish credit union movement with similar movements in the developing world and low-income countries. Through support for the development of credit unions in low-income countries, the Foundation is helping people to help themselves through the credit union model. In 1989 the ILCU International Development Foundation Limited was formally established and registered as a non-governmental organisation (NGO).
The Foundation also has charitable status, the registered charity number is CHY 9704. The mission of the ILCU Foundation is “to alleviate poverty in developing countries by supporting credit unions, their representative bodies and other co-operative type organisations as a means for socio-economic development through the provision of financial and technical assistance”.
